When selecting prospective students, what factors are considered by your admissions staff? (e.g. grades, portfolio, class rank, etc.)

For graduate admission, we consider the portfolio, letters of recommendation, grades and personal statement.

What do you look for in a prospective student's portfolio?

We look for a strong sense of personal direction and also for evidence of broader skills and interests.

What kinds of things are you looking for in an interview with a prospective student?

We want students with strong art & design work but also with interests in other areas of the University, so they become part of the larger community.

What three things can most likely DECREASE their chances of getting accepted?

Inadequate portfolio, inadequate grades and less than enthusiastic letters of recommendation

How selective are art schools in general?

There is no "in general." Schools vary greatly and look for different types of students.

What advice can you provide to students who are trying to get accepted into art schools?

Concentrate on your work so you have a well developed portfolio.
